Box 761, Tweed, On K0K 3J0 613-477-2039 Studio Tour Date: Oct 2 & 3, 2010 Dear Artist/Artisan You are invited to apply to join the artists of the Tweed & Area Studio Tour ’10 to celebrate the arts in Tweed and area. In keeping with our standards, all work must be original with no kits or bazaar type items. Each artist/artisan member of the Studio Tour has a share in the preparation and running of the Tour. Please attend our meetings (usually 4 per year) and volunteer to do your share. We need participants to help with setting up promotional venues, coordinating advertising, distributing brochures, etc. There are usually several promotional venues where our work is displayed during the year prior to the tour. Venues have included Stirling Library, Tweed Heritage Centre, etc. There is a Waiver for Venues on the application form- please complete it if you would like your work to be shown at these venues. Please read and complete the application form carefully and completely. We must receive your completed form, photos and fee by Feb 1, 2010. This allows us time to create and print the brochure in time for spring shows Check out our website at www.tweedstudiotour.org. If you have any questions about completing the form please call Pam at 613-477-2039 Thank you History of Tour: The tour began in 1997 with the realization that there were no studio tours in the area. The tour grew from a small group of artists getting together to correct this oversight. In this short time the tour has become a popular autumn excursion for art lovers from near and far. Purpose of the Tour: The purpose of the studio tour is to introduce art lovers to the wealth of artistic talent to be found in our corner of Eastern Ontario. Arts & Crafts Invited: Fine Arts: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography Weaving Woodwork Fabric Glass Floral design Jewellery Leather Fibre Art Knitting Metalwork Pottery Toys Quilting Dates & Times: Show dates are Sat Oct 2 & Sun Oct 3, 2010 Hours are 10:00am to 5:00 pm. All artists must participate both days. Application Deadline & Fees Deadline is Feb 1, 2010. Fee is $125.00 by Feb 1 or $150.00 after Feb 1. Entries received after Feb 15 may not appear in the brochure. Make cheque payable to Tweed & Area Studio Tour. No post-dated cheques. Refunds prior to Mar 1 subject to a $15.00 administration fee. No refunds after Mar 1. Application Procedure: Current Members: Submit registration form & fee by deadline. New Members: Submit registration form & fee along with four photos for each craft. Include a stamped, self addressed envelope if photos are to be returned by mail. The Standards Committee will review your submission and review your work & exhibition space. If your application is not accepted, your cheque will be returned. Photos will be returned to all applicants. NOTE: TWO OR MORE ARTISTS/ARTISANS MAY SHARE A STUDIO; HOWEVER EACH MUST APPLY SEPARATELY WITH APPLICATION FORM AND PAYMENT. NEW APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT FOUR PHOTOS. Selling: artists/Artisans are responsible for their own sales and collection of sales taxes, if applicable. Please check with your local Sales Tax Office. All arrangements to be made by the artist/artisan. Liability: The Tweed & Area Studio Tour is not responsible for losses or damages incurred during the event. Exhibitor should be insured for accident liability. Waiver for Venues: The Tweed & Areas Studio Tour and designated Venues are not responsible for losses or damages incurred during a venue event including setup, dismantling, and transport. Please sign waiver on attached form. Note: All Artist/Artisan members of the Tweed & Area Studio Tour are expected to share in the preparation and running of the tour. TWEED & AREA STUDIO TOUR RULES & SUGGESTIONS Please take careful note of the following and keep for future reference Rules 1. Hours of the Tour: Please be sure to observe the advertised hours: Saturday Oct 2 & Sunday Oct 3, 2010 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm both days 2. Signs: Please place the signs out beginning only on Saturday morning otherwise the Ministry of Transportation may remove them. Please weight signs as necessary and place in appropriate locations. Bring signs in both nights. You are responsible for lost or damaged signs. 3. Focus: Total focus on the tour alone is essential. No other activities such as yard sales, etc are permitted. Make this a professional event. 4. Other Products: If you carry products other than your own work as listed in the brochure, they must not be prominently displayed during the tour. 5. If you find it necessary to withdraw from the tour please contact Pam Bailey-Brown at 613 477-2039 immediately SUGGESTIONS: 1. Assistance: someone to assist you during the tour is helpful. 2. Demonstrations: Demonstrating your work during the tour will reinforce the fact that our products are handmade by the artisan. 3. Refreshments: Our customers will appreciate this special touch. 4. Guest Book: This can be helpful for both comments and compiling a mailing list and /or contacts. 5. Record the number of guests you receive. 6. Children’s Play Area: is helpful if you have space. 7. Entrance: Make sure the entrance is well marked and is attractive and inviting. 8. Balloons: Balloons or streamers attached to signs will attract attention. 9. Draw Prize: An appropriate piece of your work as a draw prize will enhance the experience for out customers and also helps compile our mailing list. Remember that you may have to mail or ship the prize to the winner. Ballots will be supplied to you by the committee.
